Is Your Elbow Hurting? Here’s What It Could Be

Health,Concept,,Person,With,Elbow,Pain,,Woman,Holding,Hands,On Elbow pain can range in intensity, but even the least extreme of elbow pain can affect arm mobility and cause general issues. There are a variety of causes behind elbow pain. Learning a few of the most common ones may help you find proper treatment. It may even help you prevent worsening the condition until you find treatment.

If your elbow has been hurting, here’s what could be the cause.

Tendonitis

Tendons are comprised of strong, fibrous material and connect the muscle to the bone. After injury or due to wear and tear from overuse, the tendon can become inflamed, leading to tendonitis.

Tendonitis pain can flare due to use, and there may be periods throughout the day when you don’t feel any pain.

Tennis Elbow

Tennis elbow is also caused by tendon injury or overuse. The tendons on the forearm side of the elbow can become inflamed, injured, or worn down by overuse. Typically, pain is on the outside of the forearm and may worsen with activity.

Anyone may develop the condition despite the name, even if they do not play tennis. With repetitive motion or injury, a tennis elbow may develop.

Golfer’s Elbow

Golfer’s elbow is similar to tennis elbow in how it may be caused, but the pain is centralized to the inner elbow instead of the outer elbow. Like tennis elbow, the pain from a golfer’s elbow may also radiate down the arm towards the wrist.

Cubital Tunnel Syndrome

Cubital tunnel syndrome affects the ulnar nerve, which you may be familiar with if you’ve ever hit your ‘funny bone.’

When the ulnar nerve is compressed due to injury or overuse, you can face tingling, numbing, pain, discomfort, or muscle weakness.
